Jean-Claude has been requested to speak in regards to his humanitarian work, his life experiences throughout the Bosnian war, and his successful career, such as being the first Internal Auditor of the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, and the founder of the Institute of Internal Auditors of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. Jean-Claude has officially invited GENESIS: SARAJEVO to participate in this forum. We will be speaking to a rather large Bosnian community, as well as, to the students of UPS. A significant Bosnian refugee population of more than 6,000 people reside in the Seattle/Tacoma area. I want to take this time to feature a very special organization that is close to my heart and the heart of GENESIS: SARAJEVO, FREEDOM TO CREATE. We received a grant from FREEDOM TO CREATE in 2009 that allowed us to expand our program and reach more youth in Bosnia & Herzegovina. FREEDOM TO CREATE’S mission and belief in the arts is exactly in line with ours, and we feel so fortunate to have united with them to help create social change through the arts in developing regions of the world. In addition to receiving such a generous grant from FREEDOM TO CREATE, we were one of the top 5 finalists in their Youth Category for the FREEDOM TO CREATE PRIZE. The FREEDOM TO CREATE PRIZE celebrates the courage and creativity of artists around the world who use their talents to build the foundations for open societies and inspire the human spirit. We were very honored to be one of the finalists, and we are extremely excited for the artists who are in the running for the prize this year. These artists have been brought together by FREEDOM TO CREATE http://www.freedomtocreate.com/,  an international arts and development organization dedicated to celebrating artists who utilize their talents to promote social justice and build open societies.  One of FREEDOM TO CREATE’S key initiatives is the annual FREEDOM TO CREATE PRIZE, which will be awarded at a ceremony in Cairo in November. Check out what these people are doing: Social work through hip hop & breakdancing: Steve Leafloor is the founder of BLUEPRINT FOR LIFE, a hip-hop outreach program offering kids an escape from the streets. He has worked across 38 remote arctic communities with hundreds of Inuit and first nation youths using hip hop to tackle issues such as suicide, gas sniffing, cultural empowerment and sexual abuse. BLUEPRINT shows them their voice and that they exist and the impact is felt by the elders in the community, too, who regularly thank Leafloor for his part in helping them to preserve their culture.
